The aptly named Stratum GTX consists of multiple layers of high-performance kit that work together to cover pretty much any conditions you might encounter on a motorcycle.
The base jacket is an AA-rated, highly ventilated and heavily armored warm-weather jacket. It's a fully-baked, standalone jacket that sports a full complement of pockets, and contains some serious level 2 REVIT brand armor— including extended-coverage elbow armor, which offers copious protection surrounding the elbow and extending well down the forearm.
The second key component of the Stratum system is a 3L Gore-Tex shell that slips easily (*with no confounding tethers or tie-ins) over the base jacket, and drastically ups both the overall abrasion resistance and weather-proofing of the jacket.
For particularly foul-weather rides, or for off-the-bike campground protection, a zip-off hood/storm collar protects the rider from rain and cold, and creates a thermal gasket around the helmet while underway.
Thanks to a twin-zipper connection scheme, the back of the hood connection is open, preventing it from turning into a hangman's parachute at speed.
The jacket is fully waterproof and operational with or without the hood, which can stow in the large rabbit pocket on the back of the jacket.
For those in-between rides, there are plenty of vents built into the outer shell, letting the user modulate temperature on the fly. Notably it gets the same clever center-front zippper vent from the Echelon jacket, which employs an optional secondary main front zipper that battens down a 2-inch mesh flap. This feature turns the entire main zipper into one big central AC vent.
The heavy-duty TZIP waterproof zipper closes the jacket up tight against incoming wind and water, but the user can lower the main zip to expose the generous central vent, in addition to arm and back vents.
As with the Echelon, the Stratum comes with a level-2 back protector included in the purchase price. Clearly REVIT is taking aim at KLIM which has owned the high end adventure touring market.
With both layers employed, the jacket likely (can we say surely?) surpasses AAA levels of protection, and REVIT says it's the most protective piece in its adventure collection.
Now for the big, gray, $1,400 elephant in the room. This is tied for the most expensive jacket we've ever presented. Is it worth it?
Actually, as long as your kids aren't going hungry because you've decided to invest in some premium space-age adventure motorcycle kit, it's a pretty sweet bit of gear.
It's really a case of "one jacket to rule them all," with both an AA-rated summer jacket, and also a highly capable, well-vented, 3L Gore-Tex shell situation. All in, it's a hell of a complete package.
For adventure touring through variable terrain, and through a very wide range of weather scenarios, this jacket is exceedingly efficient. And when you consider it replaces a specialty summer jacket, and also a separate Gore-Tex touring jacket, you might just be able to justify it.
In a way this jacket feels like a concept car; etherial specs and ambitions not meant for mainstream production. But it is in fact a production piece, available to try on at the store, or order online and try on at home.
We were very skeptical of the price tag, and the exceedingly dramatic REVIT promotional video wasn't selling it. But in person, going through the kit, seeing how it works, and how functional it is, it won us over, and we've added it to our catalog.
Bonus: Like KLIM, REVIT now insures its gear with a crash protection program, by which you'll get free repair or a full 50% replacement product if you damage your jacket in a crash.
Fit note: Like all REVIT gear we find the fit to be on the trim side. Model is 6 feet tall, 170lbs, wearing medium.
