Designed with the same concept as the Stratum GTX jacket, this product starts off with a vented in-boot moto pant that's AA rated for impact and abrasion, with copious armor coverage provided by adjustable Level 2 SEEFLEX knee protectors, and Level 1 hip armor.

The second component of this "pant system" is an over-the-boot, 3L Gore-Tex shell that shell has two sizable thigh vents, and no fewer than four fully functional pockets.

In certain conditions a rider could run these on their own as a sort of gentleman's motocross pant. After all they're rated as a standalone AA-rated protective garment, and come complete with lux leather inlays for gripping a tank while navigating rough, off camber terrain.

Mesh pants have never been as much of a thing as mesh jackets, but if one were to, say, find themselves fixing to take repeated attempts of a rocky hero section on the Arizona BDR, or maybe navigating some technical singletrack in the 100 percent humidity of a southern summer—these pants are going to breathe better than just about anything we've seen.

They've got wide-gauge mesh behind the knees, tighter-weave material in more critical abrasion areas, and will evacuate heat as well as any design on the market.

That said we expect these to be mostly used in conjunction with the Gore-Tex shell. Which is no slouch itself, and not everyone's going to be game to wear the base-layer space pajamas on their own. Plus, multiple layers always mean better abrasion resistance.

The inner pant zips into the waist of the shell with a circumferential hip-to-hip zipper for unified fit and function.

*Not to be confused with the short connection zipper, for tying into the matching Stratum GTX Jacket, or any equipped with the matching zipper.

On one hand, these pants are eye-poppingly high priced.

On the other hand, consider that they kill several birds with one stone.

They're (1) a technical AA rated off-road pant; (2) a Gore-Tex touring pant that can button up for a monsoon, or run with open vents for in-between weather, on or off-road; they also serve as (3) a flexible Gore-Tex rain pant, which could be paired with your favorite armored riding jeans.

That might seem like a bit of a stretch, but your'e going to want to have all the justifications at hand as possible when it comes time to drop a cool G on a pair of pants.

And at the end of the day, armor ends up sloshing around a bit in oversized Gore-Tex touring pants, but with this system, the close-fitting inner pant makes sure they armor stays in place, freeing the overpant from the need to house said armor. It's a good system, and one we expect to see more of in the future.

The pants come with all the bells-and-whistle adjustments one would expect. With a built-in belt, additional side-strap Velcro adjusters, and adjustable cuffs for making a nice seal on the boot.
