Although it gets a touring designation for marketing purposes, with a slightly more fitted cut than the brand’s big adventure jackets, the Latitude had dominant KLIM DNA, following the same proven playbook as all its big-boy adventure jackets. Which is to say, it gets a laminate Gore-Tex shell that’s 100% waterproof, multiple vents going through said shell, and super sturdy materials and rugged overlays at the shoulders and elbows.
The improvements over the previous generation Latitude are mostly concerned with reducing bulk, adding comfort in the form of flex/stretch panels, and even more adjustment features—with dual side torso straps for eliminating unwanted bulk, or adjusting between seasonal layers; as well as a zippered side gusset, for adding more room at the hips when seated on the bike.
As with all KLIM’s technical Gore-tex Laminate jackets, you’ll need to run your own base layers and/or mid layers to meet the requirements dictated by the day's weather.
Although it’s positioned as a touring jacket with lower profile level 1 D3O armor, compared to KLIM’s more Adventure/Off-Road oriented jacket, like the Carlsbad, the 600D Cordura chassis and goat-leather overlays means this jacket is no slouch. The armor can easily be upgraded to Level 2 if so desired, and there’s really not that much separating this from the Carlsbad in terms of adventure potential.
A quick note on the CE 17092 safety rating: The Latitude gets a measly single A rating. Don’t let that fool you though. Because KLIM designers spec’d a stretch fabric under the armpits for extra flexibility, the jacket doesn’t meet the technical requirements for the AA tests. In our opinion, this is an unfortunate loophole and shouldn't hold you back from considering this truly heavy-duty and fully capable jacket.
Available in a range of smart color choices, the Latitude will top any ride’s gear list looking for a touring —or— adventure jacket that’ll hold up to all sorts of rides regardless of terrain or weather conditions.
