Even without the included ABS pate built into the back of this bag for extra support, the waxed canvas used on this bag is so thick, the thing practically stands up on its own.

To access the inside, simply shrug the leather straps off to each side and unfurl the roll-top to gain access—it's only necessary to adjust the leather straps when you're changing the total volume between min and max.

The inside of the bag is unlined, and the material comes with a fresh coat of waterproofing wax treatment (aka: "18th century waterproofing.) This will provide ample protection from a passing spat of rain, but you're taking electronics through a hurricane, you should probably opt for a drybag insert, like this one from UNIT Garage.

Just to acknowledge the elephant in the room, UNIT Garage's canvas bags are not cheap. We'll rely here on the maxim that Cheap stuff ain't good; and good stuff ain't cheap. We'll also point out that it's not inexpensive to make products in Italy, especially when you don't cut corners. The leather work and materials choices on these bags are very well done.

The leather is copiously thick, and uniformly stitched, and the hardware is reassuringly heavy and well made. More like equestrian tack, and anything but flimsy.
