German-made Proxxon tools are the standout highlights of the new tool spec—check out the 52-tooth ratchet wrench, screwdriver, modular sliding t-handle, and an assortment of 1/4" drive tools. We’ve also added a brilliant SOG multi-tool/pliers combo, and the kit now comes with a full 30-piece hex bit set, as well as a reversible Topeak-brand micro-ratchet tool.

All these new components come on top of the existing standard-issue drop-forged German and American wrenches and sundry other odds and ends that make this, we contend, the most comprehensive metric motorcycle tool kit on the market.

And the purpose-built tool roll itself is no slouch, either. The original BMW tool kits were brilliant, but the carriers were often made of “pleather” which has long since disintegrated.

Each Union Garage Tool Roll is handmade right here in New York from double-layered 12oz waxed cotton and competition-weight cowhide—the same leather as used in our Vanson-made V7 Jacket.

The roll has brass eyelets built into its reinforced leather corners so it can hang above a workbench, and it winds up into a compact roll to be able to easily pack along on your next motorcycle adventure.

The original intent of the Union Garage tool roll was to emulate the best known example of the breed: the complete BMW factory toolkits that came with the company’s iconic air-cooled twins between the 1960s through 1995.

The legendary reliability of these old bikes owes no small part to these original toolkits, which came with everything an owner would need to complete regular maintenance interval tasks.

And so it’s no accident we’ve included two 12mm open end wrenches and a complete set of feeler gauges for setting the tappets on a BMW. But this kit is universal enough to work with any metric motorcycle.

The intent was also to put our own stamp (literally, note the embossed Union Logo patch) on a popular niche product category.

Plug “tool roll” into your search bar and there are no shortage of options. Waxed cotton and leather tool rolls have become catnip for café racing gentleman gear hounds’ Pinterest boards. Or really for anyone who appreciates quality tools and lasting design.

Unlike most available on the market today, this Uber Deluxe kit comes complete with tools you’ll need to perform roadside repairs and regular at-home maintenance tasks on your metric motorcycle.

And here’s a dirty little secret: you don’t have to even own a bike to appreciate the utility of this little bundle of joy.

It’s also useful for knocking out Ikea furniture assembly, working on cars, bicycles, electronics—pretty much anything that has a nut or bolt.           

// Equipment Overview

In addition to various Proxxon 1/4" sockets, extensions and drivers, this Uber Deluxe Tool includes Heyco open-end wrenches. These wrenches are sourced direct from Deutschland and are the same type used in original BMW factory tool kits, but with a durable (and nicely contrasting) black phosphate finish. 

We also spec another throwback to BMW kits with the Heyco-made combination mini screwdriver/test light, which is small enough to store easily but still fully capable of setting static timing or performing general electrical troubleshooting. We include an extra electrical lead equipped with alligator/roach clips to serve as an extension for the test light, or for miscellaneous other duties.

Other than the tool roll construction itself the other blatant weak points of the original BMW kits were the chintzy Allen keys and clunky pliers. We upgraded these components with superior alternatives: professional grade US-forged Bondhus Allen keys with ball-ends on one side, and now a SOG multi-tool that offers easy one-handed operation.

Also in the kit: a universal stamped-steel spark plug wrench, an American-made 0-50psi tire pressure gauge, and an LED flashlight with an adjustable beam for illuminating nighttime repairs, or for peering through a timing port to find the registration marks on a flywheel.

The roll features a dedicated sleeve located behind the Allen wrench flap to house a Moleskine maintenance log so you can chart your bike’s service history. And right next door you’ll find a pair of 8-inch-long steel tire levers for those times when there's no other choice but to change a tire on the side of the road. (we do recommend packing a larger tire spoon along, as well as some dish soap, to help get the job done.)

And for smaller jobs, or those that require getting into tight spaces, we include a lovely little micro reversible bit ratchet from Topeak, which we comes along with an optional 2-inch magnetic extension and a 30-piece bit set.

Addendum: this thing is so packed with great tools that we now include a little secondary shuttle pouch to house all the odds and bobs. Each pouch measures a measly 4x4 inches and is constructed of 10.10oz waxed cotton with a bright-orange 500D Cordura liner and a waterproof YKK Zip. It's basically a mini version of our Toolkit Lite—which we offer complete with tools, or as a pouch only.
