The Union Garage Tool Roll is now offered in a few different variations.
1) The Base Kit - $150
This includes the tool roll itself, which is handmade from 10.10oz Martexin waxed canvas and black cowhide, and trimmed with leather, with brass hardware.
Since the roll is so specific, we do not sell it completely empty. The most bare-bones configuration we offer it in includes:
> Bondhus U.S. made ball-end L-Bend metric hex keys in sizes 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, and 2mm
> a 2.5x4" notebook/maintenance log, which stows in a dedicated pocket and is to be used for recording those diligent oil changes and service intervals.
> a US made Lee Parks Design 0-50PSI tire pressure gauge.
2) Base Kit + Heyco Wrench Set (+$70)
German-made Heyco brand open-end wrenches have been a staple of Mercedes Benz and BMW automotive kits for decades; and they were included in BMW factory tool kits from the 1960s through the end of the millennium.
These black phosphate finish, drop-forged wrenches offer a great hand feel and balance with an ideal strength to weight ratio. Perfect to pack into a tool kit you can take on board the bike.
The wrench specs are as follows: 19x22, 17x13, 12x13, 10x8, 10, 12mm.
Note that two of the wrenches are single-sided only. We took pains to make sure we had two 12mm wrenches included, as that's what's required to adjust the valves on on old airhead BMW. We also include an extra single-sided 10mm open end wrench, because A) who can't use another 10mm and B) god damn it's just an adorable little thing.
One last Heyco bit included in this kit, and also inclucded in original BMW Motorrad factory tool kits: A small but mighty combination test light and small flat-head screwdriver.
3) Base Kit + Proxxon 1/4" Bit and Driver Set (+$80)
We've sourced singular bits of the Proxxon hand tools in previous iterations of this kit, but this time we chose to just throw the whole pre-assembled 36-piece driver kit at it.
- 1/4" sockets for flat and Phillips screwdriver, Torx and metric Allen
- 4 - 13mm sockets, 6-sided.
- L-Bend Allen Keys: 1.25, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 and 3mm
- 50mm 1/4" extension
- 100mm 1/4" extension (incorporated into T-Bar)
- 3/8-to-1/4" socket adapter
- 1/4" drive screwdriver with 1/4" socket built into the heel of the handle
- 52-tooth one-piece forged chrome vanadium socket wrench
Sure with this whole kit you'll end up with some bits you may never need in a motorcycle kit, like Torx bits for older bikes, or a 4.5MM socket for god knows what, or 1.25mm hex key (?!), but pack up what you need and leave the rest for the home tool box. Or keep the Proxxon kit complete - we include the handy steel carrying case with every Proxxon order.
The real stars here are the usual-suspect metric sockets and hex keys, and the 1/4" drive screwdriver with a 1/4" drive built into its butt-end, the 52-tooth 1/4" ratchet, and the T-handle made up of extension bits for higher-torque applications.
4) Have it all: While supplies last.
As of the fall of 2024 we only have 10 Heyco wrench sets to complete "whole enchilada" edition of these classic tool rolls—That's the base kit + The Heyco Wrenches and test light + The full 36pc Proxxon 1/4" drive set.

The original intent of the Union Garage tool roll was to emulate the best known example of the breed: the complete BMW factory toolkits that came with the company’s iconic air-cooled twins between the 1960s through 1995.
The roll has brass eyelets built into its reinforced leather corners so it can hang above a workbench, and it winds up into a compact roll to be able to easily pack along on your next motorcycle adventure.
The intent was also to put our own stamp (literally, note the embossed Union Logo patch) on a popular niche product that serves as an heirloom gift to yourself, or a loved one.
