The Borrego is flexible and easy to wear, comes with a great armor spec, and drips with practical features—like plenty of pockets (including a waterproof one for keeping devices dry), plus "handwarmer" pockets, chest pockets, and a rabbit pocket at the back.
Designed with a classic waxed-canvas look, it features a detachable Drystar liner that can be worn inside for windproof protection, or over the top of the jacket for protection against the rain. Roll it up and stow it in a tank bag or in the jacket's own rear rabbit pocket when not needed.
Showing rare restraint, the designers at Alpinestars didn't plaster Alpinetars logos all over this jacket. Instead there's a small badge on the chest, and some embroidered nonsense on the back shoulder that we could do without, but can forgive, too—because this is a classy, well cut jacket that we can't help but like.
Long mesh-backed zippers running the length of the inner arms, along with exhaust vents at the torso, make this a versatile jacket in a range of conditions.
This, plus a stretch stretch polymide/canvas shell, and the light "warm gray" color make this jacket breath well when needed.
The canvas material is not waterproof by design—that's where the Drystar rain layer comes in. The result is a versatile shell that isn't heavy or clammy in hot humid weather.
Comfortable, flexible, and smartly anatomically correct left- and right-specific CE Level 2 Nucleon PLASMA PRO shoulder and elbow armor offer good mobility without skimping on protection.
The jacket has a pocket to accept a number of different back protector options, including a size L Alpinestars Nucleaon, or else we're always partial to the D30 Viper series, size L.
Also to note: this jacket has enought stretch to it to be certified to work with the Alpinestars Tech-Air 5 Plasma vest, which obviates the need for a slip-in back protector insert, as it comes with a Level 2 built in.
Note: In Europe Alpinestars offers a matching (slightly darker finish) Borrego pant, but they didn't bring it into the US. Instead you can go with any number of riding jeans we stock, or mix and match from any of our other technical trouser options.
