Our goal in developing the D3 gloves was to preserve everything we love about classic Lee Parks deerskin motorcycle gloves—the supple but highly protective deerskin, the surgical-glove-like dexterity—and then improve upon them.
To wit: we’ve added size-graded, left-/right-specific D3O knuckle armor, hidden cleanly under a reinforcing panel of deerskin. The D3 gloves also see an added dash of convenience with touchscreen friendly fingertips that we are happy to report work better than any other glove we’ve tried to date.
We’ve layered these features on top of an already proven chassis known as the Lee Parks Deertour glove, which was developed by Lee after years of extensive testing and research as the editorial director of Motorcycle Consumer News. Lee figured he could make a better glove that what was available, and so he did. And it's been a perennial best-seller for us since we opened.
Lee Parks gloves start with premium materials. Namely, 2.75oz deerskin – the premium Grade-A variety that’s mostly exported to Italy to make handbags and luxury goods. Although it’s supremely supple and offers superior dexterity, especially once worn-in a bit, deerskin is still more abrasion-resistant than cowhide.
And unlike traditional leather gloves, which can shrink or stiffen after getting wet, deerskin stays soft and pliable through years of regular use. In fact, the more you get these gloves wet and then wear them again after they dry out, the better they'll fit, as they will form and mold to your hand.
Also note the seamless palm construction, which eliminates the vulnerable “gun stock” thumb seam found on many motorcycle gloves, and on a lot of gloves claiming to be motorcycle gloves. This design eliminates this potential failure point at the most critical area of a glove.
All Lee Parks gloves are sewn together with double-duty thread, which won't pull through leather like Kevlar thread can. The black panels sewn into the tips of the thumb and forefinger are made of goatskin that’s been tanned with an agent specifically designed to offer instant and excellent conductivity with the touchscreen of your choice. We've tried all the various gloves' touch-tips and these—borrowed from Lee Parks excellent SUMO series— are the best yet.
And like all other Lee Parks gloves this new D3 model features a double layer of deerskin across the palm, for added abrasion resistance where it’s needed most.
Also note the subtle but all-important w rist strap, which cinches these gloves down for added security. Compared to, say, a work glove, which is meant to be taken on and off repeatedly and with ease, slipping on a proper fitting motorcycle glove should take a second, and your hand should "socket" securely into place.
Available in a classic black and a striking black-and-tan option, we now offer the gloves in a full size spread, with the recent addition of the X-Small option—which to be sure will fit like a lot of other company's size small gloves.
New gloves should be borderline uncomfortably snug. They should be difficult to get on the first time. There's enough stretch in the deerskin they will mold to your hands over time.
