Before you sneeze at the high-viz safety yellow of this garment, we like to remind anyone shopping for rain gear that when it comes to staying safe and dry while riding a motorcycle through the rain, we’re utterly at the mercy of other drivers’ ability to see us in between swipes of the windshield wipers.
Drivers are distracted enough as it is, so we welcome the obnoxiously high-visibility shade of yellow used with EN 471” these pants. It’s “CE certified high-vis, to be exact, which means that it’s not just bright, but it won’t fade over time.
When it’s raining, or about to rain, and you’re somewhere out on the bike between Point A and Point B, there’s nothing better than being able to pull over and don your rain gear to beat the elements.
Salopette is basically French for “Farmer John” and we like the design for this use case because no matter how hip-less a rider might be, no matter how prone to plumber’s crack, it’s pretty much impossible to get water to run down the back of these pants, thanks to the uber high-waisted nature of the design.
Three gusseted zippers make getting into and out of this garment a relatively easy task – even on the side of the road, without needing to take your boots off. We successfully tested ingress and egress while wearing size 45 Stylmartin Matrix boot, and they fit (with some finagling) through the expandable pant leg openings.
Once on, twin sturdy Velcro straps keep the lower leg of the pant nice and snug – to prevent flapping, and also to prevent melting if the thing comes in contact with a hot header pipe.
The main zipper on this garment is thoughtfully biased across the body, so that there’s no weak point where the zipper leaks at the crotch where water sometimes pools while riding a motorcycle through rain.
This product feature soft breathable mesh suspenders up top that do a great job of comfortably keeping the pants in place, without any added bulk.
There are also elasticated Velcro adjusters at the waist to maintain a slim/trim fit underneath a motorcycle jacket + rain jacket over top.
Even though these are the most capable rain pants we’ve ever had in the store, they still pack neatly into an included stuff sack the size of a grande burrito.
The waterproofing comes by way of laminated Nylon with taped seams and an inner mesh lining to keep the garment from getting clammy on long rides.
Fits true to size. If between sizes, go up.
