The original factory replacement cheek pads for Shoei RF-1200 Helmets are offered in four sizes: 31, 35, 39, and 43mm. These contoured multi-material, antimicrobial cheekpads are some of the best in the business. They are easy to remove for cleaning or replacement via the red strap pull that functions as the Emergency Release.
From our extensive experience fitting RF-1200's in-store, we find that maybe 10-15% of folks prefer a thinner than the (usually) stock 35mm cheek pads.
Keep in mind, Shoei recommends 20+ hours of break-in. And even once broken in, you still shouldn't be able to chomp gum super freely inside your helmet. The fit should be snug and comprehensive.
How should these feel? You should feel a little "chipmunking" of your cheek when the helmet is new. After the break-in period, you should still have a comprehensive, full-face contact, comfortable fit.
If you have a fuller face and find the stock pads distractingly uncomfortable, try the 31mm cheek pad set. If you'd like to try these on with a new helmet purchase, just add them to your cart and we'll include a $5 courtesy return mailer to get them back to us.
Conversely, if you've bumped into a larger size than a standard measurement might suggest, or if you're in between and have opted for the larger size, or have a thinner face, you might well want to go up to a larger-than-stock cheekpad size.
All cheek pads are interchangeable between all helmet sizes.
