While it looks like a heavy-duty button-up overshirt, look closer and you’ll notice there’s more at play. First, the collar snaps down, thankfully, so it won’t flay your neck at speed. Next, notice the no-nonsense YKK zipper hidden under the otherwise aesthetic buttons—work shirts are nice and all but not when the buttons rip off during a get-off, exposing tender muffin-top to unforgiving pavement.

The Tracer 2 also gets a subtle drop tail for full plumber’s coverage while riding, and slightly pre-curved sleeves, which are also cut a touch long to keep the wrist covered while reaching for the bars. A nice discreet extra: there’s 3M reflective striping on the backs of the elbows for better visibility at night.

And finally, the Tracer 2 gets a short connection zipper, for tying into any compatible REVIT pants, or the REVIT Safeway belt, a smart zippered sleeve that connects any REVIT jacket to most standard pants.

From a protection standpoint, the Tracer 2 punches way above its apparent weight class. Its shell is cut from 11-ounce Cordura denim, which itself is 4x more abrasion resistant than standard issue Levi’s. The sleeves are reinforced with an added layer of “Power Shield” at the elbows – which is REVIT’s house-brand abrasion resistant aramid Kevlar-type fiber — and the jacket comes with Seesmart shoulder and elbow armor included. This thinnest-in-class protection passes the CE Level 1 impact test, but is barely thicker than $0.75 in quarters stacked together, and it’s about as pliable as a wet pancake.

If you’re looking for something that’ll flow air a little better, opt for the Tracer Air 2, which gets the Power Shield doubled-up abrasion layer at the shoulders as well as the elbows, and the entire chassis is made of a proprietary abrasion resistant mesh.

The Tracer 2 is a subtly tweaked sequel to the original Tracer jacket. Most of the upgrades come by way of the fit and finish. The Tracer 2 seems to address a minor flaw in its predecessor, by which the buttons were set too close together relative to the zipper. The result is that when zipped up tight the buttons presented an exaggerated “Chris Farley” effect. The new-and-improved Tracer 2 has fixed this rather unflattering characteristic.

We still don’t get the military-inspired Velcro patch in this application, but thankfully the REVIT patch that comes with the jacket is easy to remove, and can be replaced with flair of your own.

As with all REVIT jackets the back protector is an add-on. And you might well already have one if you own a cooler-weather REVIT option.

This piece takes a REVIT “RV” type Level 2 back protection the following sizes:
