This saddlebag line consists of two basic products—a 14-liter and an 18-liter saddlebag—which can be purchased individually (SOLO-14 or SOLO-18), or together to make sets.
Both the SOLO and DUO packages come with all the mounting straps required, and each package comes with a single shoulders strap for off-bike use.
As the manufacturer of some of our best-selling motorcycle-specific dry-packs with a well-earned reputation for bombproof, well-thought-out motorcycle bags and backpacks, we’re endorsing these new Kriega bags before we receive our first shipment. Unlike almost any other product currently available on the market, these bags deliver a clean, purposeful design, without the over-done logos or underwhelming aesthetic found in many competitors’ options.
The bags are completely waterproof thanks to Kriega’s proven roll-top design, which relies on an internal, seam-sealed waterproof liner. Thankfully, that liner is white, so it’s easy to sort through; and it’s also removable, for easy cleaning.
The exterior shell of the bags is made from super-tough abrasion-resistant 1000D Cordura and Hypalon, a kind of synthetic-rubber polyethylene that’s impervious to chemicals, temperature and UV. Why does this matter? While making bags out of something like waxed cotton makes for a great-looking, nominally waterproof product, the material is inherently going to be prone to sun fading and chemical degradation from exposure to roadside elements.
As is Kriega’s trademark, no expense was spared with these bags’ hardware spec—aircraft-grade anodized alloy strap connectors and heavy-duty cam buckles hold the bags securely in place.
FITMENT / INSTALLATION
*These bags offer a near universal fit to almost any classic or modern retro-styled bike, but they do require some sort of stand-off or pannier rack to keep the bags from potentially swinging into your wheel, rear shock and/or chain. If you’ve got an old BMW Airhead with standard rack loops, you’re ready to go. Otherwise, you’ll need to install a saddlebag support.
To that end Kriega has come up with an ingenious side-plate saddlebag support specific to Ducati Scramblers. Additionally, we’ve sourced compatible saddlebag supports for both the BMW R Nine-T and all twin-shock Triumph Bonneville/Thruxton/Scrambler variants from 2001-2016. We also have accounts with Give and Hepco Becker and are happy to source a rack for your
If installed correctly the saddlebags will be supported by twin straps, cantilevered over the seat and tied into the frame rail or a saddlebag support opposite the side the bag is being mounted. The purpose of the saddlebag supports (sometimes called stand-offs) is merely to keep the bags from swinging inward.
