All of the LP series armor inserts (LP = "Limb Protector," go figure) series achieves excellent impact ratings, meeting and exceeding the EU-set standards for their respective classes.
Do these Level 2 protectors add girth over their lighter-duty LP1 model, or comparable models, like D3O's Evo XT, or T5? You bet they do. But for an adventure jacket or pant, or any garment with room for these LP2 options, in which you're *not* hellbent on hiding the armor, that added girth between your contact points—knees, elbows, shoulders, hips— very clearly translates into extra protection.
While the benefits of the LP series lie in the perforated design (45% more breathability, according to the manufacturer), this will be hard to perceive if you're not installing them into a jacket with plenty of perforation to start.
For a Gore-Tex laminate Klim jacket or pants, for example, even with all the vents, we will hazard a bet that you'd be hard-pressed to tell the difference between vented LP armor, and the more solid versions. But for better ventilated mesh garments, the vented LP will provide more tangible breathability. Plust the design does make the armor lighter, and we feel helps contribute to flexibility and comfort, too.
TLDR: Don't overthink it. If you're looking for Level 2 armor, and don't mind the extra girth over, say, D3O's excellent Ghost L2 product, then this is the best in the business. The benefit of any of the traditionally molded D3O limb protectors over the pancake-flat Ghost options, is that the pieces provide a nice cupped profile for naturally locating around the respective elbow and kneecap, helping keep them in place naturally should you need them.
*NOTE: All our KLIM men's jackets come stocked with "Knee" armor at the elbows, under the assumption that more = better. If replacing LP1 elbow from a stock KLIM jacket, opt for the LP2 Knee protector, as it'll better fill out the pocket, and provide greater coverage.
Features:
- High performance shock absorption
- Trusted protection
- Maximum flexibility
- Comfortable and breathable
- Meets the requirements of CE Norm EN 1621-1:2012
- Sold as a pair
- CE Level 2
