While these can be worn on their own, we always recommend layering them underneath a sacrificial shell — even linen pants will help provide a smidge extra abrasion resistance, and the physics of layers shearing against each other helps reduce damage to your skin in the event of a slide.

Note: While Bowtex does offer slightly less expensive, slightly lighter weight AA-rated versions of this same basic concept, given the significant difference between AA and AAA ratings, we have chosen to only support the AAA model.

Fit wise, the larger sizes feature a slightly more generous cut, as seen if you cycle through the product photos. Version note: Bowtex made a running change to this product which is entirely cosmetic. The 2025 version featured yellow Bowtex tags sewn onto the leg hem, and a slightly different drawstring. The 2026+ version switched to a black tag. The Dyneema protective material, the construction, the fit, and the functionality of the Level 2 armor remains the same, therefore we're offering both together at the same price.
