To be honest we thought the time of the retro full-face helmet had come and gone. Why settle for a facsimile of yesteryear's style when you can have all the comfort, safety, features, and style of a modern full face fiberglass shell?
Two words: Magnetic Grape. And the six other colors offered with the new Gringo SV, welcome (and in the European market, absolutely mandatory) reboot of the company's almost decade-old Gringo platform.
The new helmet gets a much improved hinge mechanism with improved detents, and more importantly it gets generously sized passive vents built into the jaw and back of helmet, and temple vents that can be easily adjusted to regulate airflow and move moisture out of the helmet.
The Gringo SV meets the stringent new ECE 22.06 required for European market distribution, as well as the DOT standard for legal U.S. use.
Where the old Gringo helmets used two shell sizes to cover the full six-size run, the new Gringo SV has three different shells (The same as bell, but fewer than Arai or Shoei). Moreover, the company now uses dual-density EPS liners to give each individual size a dedicated Shell/EPS combo.
Only the XL and 2XL sizes share a shell/EPS makeup; all other sizes are dedicated. In the long run this means a better fitting helmet per size. Replacement center liners are sold in one thickness per size. Fine tuning is achieved via variable cheek pads.
