With its quilted shoulders and short-cut waist, the Brooklands cuts a distinctive silhouette that gets a few important tweaks.
The jacket’s shell is cut from 8-ounce British Millerain Ultracore waxed cotton, which along with some high tenacity Nylon layering at the elbows and shoulders, earns the jacket the upgraded abrasion rating.
Cut wise, it remains largely the same, although its drop-tail gets an extra 1.5 inches of coverage to avoid gapping while on the bike.
Features wise, the jacket loses the zip-in quilted thermal liner from the last generation Brooklands. Instead it comes with hidden snaps ready to receive the optional Belstaff Climate Vest.
Functionally it’s still doubly waterproof, with a membrane sandwiched between the waxed cotton shell and the tartan liner. But now it gets discrete mesh-backed zippered vents — two intake vents built into the arms, and two exhaust vents built into the back. This small but critical detail helps extend the jacket’s range.
And because it’s a Belstaff it comes with all the trimmings — corduroy trim at the collars and cuffs, a quality tartan liner, and rich bronze hardware in its snaps, buckles and grommets.
Thoughtfully the lower snaps are given a silicone coating and the waist belt comes with an integrated waxed cotton buckle cover—both measures designed to protect one’s tank.
