The first thing you’ll notice about the D3O Ghost armor is how impossibly thin it is. Thinner than most pancakes, in fact, at only 6.5mm. For a more objective reference: that’s a little shy of a stack of 4 quarters.
D3O accomplishes this by 3D printing it’s miracle orange material onto a die-cut sheet of Lycra. This allows the company to put the impact-absorbing magical (aka: non-Newtonian) material exactly where it needs to go, while leaving plenty of space to allow for flexibility and airflow.
Ghost armor an ideal upgrade for anyone with a pair of riding jeans, a riding shirt/"shacket," or even a proper jacket. Replacing your current armor (specs listed in product images) will yield a more comfortable and flexible armor setup without sacrificing protection, as the Ghost armor series is fully certified to exceed Level 1 impact absorption requirements.
The Ghost components will fit into most standard armor pockets. They contain a loop at the top for fastening a Velcro strap, but currently that would have to be a DIY job.
Ghost armor comes in two styles—one that fits in most hip and shoulder pockets; and another that fist into most knee and elbow pockets.
We have it in store to try-out, or feel free to order online and try on at home. You’ve got 30 days to confirm the fit and return it for a full refund if it doesn’t work out. Or if you have questions please contact us!
Note: We have long used D3O Level 1 armor in our own jackets—the Robinson waxed cotton jacket, and the . We originally used the Evo XT armor, which has since been replaced with the LP-1 series, which uses the same dimensions and thickness, but adds perforations to allow for ventilation. Because our jackets come with a proprietary Velcro pouch system designed to work with the thicker armor, Ghost amor is not a compatible upgrade.
Would we rather crash with LP-1 series armor rather than Ghost? Honestly, yes. Even though they both meet CE level 1 certification, the LP1 armor is more than twice as thick, and call us old fashioned but that’s just more reassuring.
Where the Ghost armor shines is in garments where the point is to fly WAY under the radar. And Ghost armor does a great job of living up to its name, disappearing from view, while quietly offering fantastic protection from impact, despite its pancake thickness.
