Our new Venturi jackets is many things, but a one-trick pony is not one of them.
While most leather jackets shine in the shoulder seasons and suffer through the summer, the Venturi handles it all like a champ.
This jacket is an excellent pick for surviving even the hottest riding conditions, providing ample, optional, airflow without sacrificing protection.
And the beauty of the design is its versatility. Zip the myriad vents closed, and the Venturi becomes a wind-proof, water-resistant leather jacket ready for any weather.
This jacket sports double-ply shoulder and elbow caps backed up with a 5-piece D3O armor complement underneath.
Its old-school, short-cut silhouette won’t bunch up or flap in the wind, and has been optimized to fit best when reaching for the handlebars of a standard or even slightly more aggressive sport bike.
// Putting the Vents in Venturi
The main attraction with this jacket are the fully perforated leather chest panels that provide a massive swaths of cold-air induction.
A dual-zip, drop-down Nylon panel positioned inside the liner help modulate airflow from full-throttle, to fully closed—giving this jacket exceptional range.
Vanson patented this dual-zipper air curtain design back in the late 1990s, and it’s still one of the smartest ways we’ve seen to add significant airflow in an otherwise classic leather jacket.
Extra optional airflow is provided by well-positioned 8-inch vents on the inner arm of both sleeves; and by two critical 7-inch exhaust vents, which are built into the side seams of this jacket’s one-piece back. All the zippered vents are mesh-backed, so even when open they’re no sacrificing the structural integrity of the jacket.
With the exhaust vents open, the namesake Venturi effect helps pull air through the jacket, allowing fresh air in, and allowing for moisture to escape.
// Third Time is a Charm
The Venturi is our third and most recent collaboration with Vanson Leathers, which is based in Fall River, Massachusetts.
This new jacket shares the same orbitally adjustable armor system as our other collaborations—the waxed cotton Robinson jacket, and the classic V7 jacket, crafted from heavy competition weight leather.
With the Venturi jacket, we took a page from Vanson’s archives, and went back and forth on several revisions before settling on this final form.
Besides implementing our orbitally adjustable armor system we also made some subtle pattern tweaks to accommodate said armor, and to optimize the fit and mobility of the jacket.
We chose to grade this jacket in 2-inch numeric intervals, rather than 3-inch intervals that you’ll find in “alpha” sized (EG: SM, MD, LG) jackets. Tighter spacing between a greater number of sizes ultimately provides a better fitting jacket for a greater number of riders.
One notable change for the Venturi over our other current jackets is the upgraded armor, using level 2 D30 Diablo at the elbows and shoulders. This new armor is thinner and more flexible than the original Level 1 D3O. And yes, this armor is reverse compatible with our older jackets as well.
Rounding out the Venturi design's design tour, a slight drop-tail design helps cover one’s backside when leaning into a standard or sport riding position. And we left the overall length of the jacket short, so the front doesn’t jack up when leaning forward to reach the bars.
Note that the sleeves of the jacket are pre-articulated, optimized for the riding position. This means the backs of the arms will be somewhat paunchy when standing around, off the bike, and just right while riding, which is ultimately the first prioirty with this piece.
// Paint it Black
Aside from the armor features, fit tweaks, and the subsequent size grading, we made some other subtle revisions to Vanson’s original design, starting by completely de-badging the exterior of this jacket.
The oval Vanson patch stands for 50 years of quality motorcycle gear manufacturing, but as with our previous collaborations we decided to go with a clean exterior look, and all logos and maker’s marks have been moved to the inside.
We also spec’d all-black YKK hardware—a chunky black main zipper, and self-sealing wind- and waterproof YKK zippers at the vents. Even the under-arm eyelets got the blackout treatment.
*These eyelets are a minor detail, but an important one because they help equalize pressure at speed, so even when all the operable vents are closed up the jacket still won’t balloon while at speed.
And we added lil leather zipper garages at all the vents, so that when it’s zipped up there are no stray zipper tabs to flap around in the wind.
Like our V7 jacket, and how we feel all motorcycle jackets should be, the “hand warmer” pockets zip down to close. And to further streamline things, the pocket zipper heads can be tucked in between the zipper welts for an OCD pleasing flap-free ride.
The jacket’s single snap collar was intentionally left short enough that it won’t flail against your neck in the wind. Leave it open for summer riding, or button it up as it gets colder.

We're excited to add this excellent addition to our catalog because it serves as a better pure-summer option than our longstanding classic V7 jacket, but also offers a lot of early- and late-season range.
We just received our opening order of these jackets from the factory in Massachusetts, and have sizes 38 to 48 in stock, loaded with armor, and ready to ship.
And while supplies last, we also have a few one-time-only in-between sizes, like 37, 43, and 49, that will not be restocked once they’re gone.
