This device provides an elegant way to fasten your plate to your bike—and remove it easily, ostensibly before someone else does.
We've seen a lot of pretty janky hardware holding on license plates. Plastic, rusty metal fasteners, or worst or all, the promotional plate frame from a dealership.
This black anodized aluminum unit is crisp and clean.
Easy plate removal can be used for security, or for temporary anonymity while—parking, for example.
While we don't officially condone breaking any laws, this device does—hypothetically—allow one to skirt local parking meters while running short errands on two wheels. Or at very least, befuddle a meter reader enough to avoid a ticket, which would otherwise require a VIN check on the street.
Of course, there's always the risk of a vehicle without proper tags being ticketed or impounded. And whatever you do, don't forget to replace the plate before you get back on the bike. Don't ask how we know.
Designed to fit any U.S. motorcycle license plate, the PlatePuller is a cinch to install with the included hardware.
We used to offer these with laser-etched Union Garage logos, but for this last run we've gone full stealth.
> A strip of velcro is included to work as a spacer, to keep the plate firmly in place. We've also found that just giving the plate a slight bow will help it act like a spring, and hold fast inside the track.
> On many bikes, only the top two mounting holes will line up with the factory bracket. This is more than sufficient.
> Hardware is included: stainless steel screws with zinc plated locknuts and washers.
PlatePuller, the maker of these devices, is no longer in operation. After a couple years out of stock, and more than a few inquiries, we bought up the remaining stock for what will amount to one last final run.
PlatePuller started back in 2008, answering the need of NYC motorcyclists who were making due with Velcro. The founder's former shop teacher handled the production machining of these units, and we had this last batch anodized right here in Bridgeport.
To keep producing this product in the future, the price would have to be closer to $80. In buying out the last batch, we're passing them on at 2008 prices - $59.99 while supplies last.
*Union Garage is not responsible from any parking tickets, impound fees, or general headaches that come with parking a motorcycle in NYC or any other municipality. We will point out that one $300 tow fee over the course of a year of otherwise free, convenient parking is less than a month in a Manhattan garage. Use with caution.
**PLATEPULLER® is not intended for use on public property. Vehicles parked or operated without a license plate can be ticketed and impounded. Please review your local traffic laws before using PLATEPULLER®
