The next generation of Sena’s SRL for SHOEI is here. The SRL3 is packed with premium features, including Mesh Intercom, as well as the older Bluetooth Intercom standard. The mic and speakers are by Harman Kardon, which some may only know from their late 90s/early 2000s dorm room Dell computers.
Not only does it only make sense to go with this unit if you're looking to add comms to your GT-Air 3, but you might even feel shamed if you don't do the upgrade, with the blank plastic trim pieces on either side of the helmet mocking you every time you pick it up.
While smaller than their predecessors in previous generation helmets, those blank bits are begging to be removed and replaced with the "Factory Bluetooth" option.
As always with the purchase of a helmet and helmet communications device, we offer free installation, and never has said installation been easier than dropping in a Sena SRL. The unit drops into place with dedicated spaces for the controls, antenna, speakers, and mic.
It is possible to clamp a universal bluetooth from any manufacturer onto this helmet, but why? This one communicates on the older Bluetooth Intercom band that Sena units have used for years, AND/OR it will work on the newer so-called Mesh Intercom band, which Sena has been moving its families of products towards, because it just works better, with a more stable connection between a greater number of riders.
Or use it to stream music, make calls, take calls, or to get navigational prompts.
We highly recommend downloading the app, and making sure you're running the latest firmware for the unit. Once you're through the initial learning curve, the convenience and utility of a good in-helmet communications system is hard to go without again.
Even if you have zero interest in having intercom connectivity with anyone, the phone and streaming connection is worth the cost of admission.

PAIRING DISCLAIMER
Union Garage will not be held liable for precious minutes wasted as you and your buddies stand in a driveway with your helmets on trying to get these suckers to pair. Make sure you're pairing compatible units, that the Sena App and the units themselves have been updated to the latest firmware (requires PC access), and that you've read and are familiar with the instructions.
Pairing Sena units of the same generation should be straightforward. Pairing with older units could get tricky, and we've found cross-brand compatibility to be wholly undependable.
IYKYK—the pain of pairing the bluetooth comms can be special; but the benefits of full duplex communication, conversing as if in the same room as one or multiple friends, is well worth the effort.
