In a welcome move, KLIM has bestowed the redesigned Marrakesh summer pant with a far slimmer leg and leg opening, so unlike its other standard “stove-pipe” adventure pant legs, this one can be passably worn with standard boots, but will still stretch to fit over beefy adventure boots.
Like the complementary Marrakesh jacket, these pants are made mostly from the miracle material known as “Karboninte Micromesh” — which is a 1000-denier Cordura product that flows air like a screen door.
At the seat, knees and cargo pockets the Marrakesh pants get a 500D Cordura overlay, and overall the pants add up to earn a AA CE safety standard. That’s more than enough protection for adventure riding, and passable for a street pant.
The pants come with D3O Ghost Level 1 armor in the hips and knees. We’d rather see it spec’d with the barely heavier, but noticeably more thick D3O Ghost Level 2, or even a standard LP1 or EVO XT Knee armor piece from D30. The Ghost L1 is so thin it barely resist flopping over on itself.
Notably, the pants get an armor adjustment system for setting the height, which we think should be right around the knee while standing, which will let it ride upend cover the kneecap while hiked up in riding position.
The fabric has a light DWR (durable water resistant) treatment, but make no mistake, this is a warmer weather adventure pant, which flows air like a sieve and has enough built-in stretch, along with a gusseted crotch, to be one of the most comfortable pants we’ve ever offered. If it's cold outside, you'll feel it through these pants, unless you're working hard off road, in which case they're a great spring or fall pant for offroad use, when you'll be out of the saddle and moving around enough to generate a bit of heat.
The pant comes with belt loops to keep them properly hitched (did we mention there's a lot of stretch to them? It also gets two standard slash pockets, a knife pocket, and two built-in zippered pockets along each thigh. All together it's an ideal option for, say, tackling a BDR.
That's Backcountry Discovery Route - for which we have all the Butler Maps at this link.
Sizing notes: No real surprises here. These are sized to replace a standard Levis jean sizing, and are so stretchy it’s hard to size too small. If you wear a 32W jean, go for the size 32 Marrakesh pant.
*Keep in mind the “Long” is a full mega 3 inches over the standard length.
