This new gold-standard “Selectable 800” model makes it easy. After you plug it in, toggle the button between clearly marked “Lithium Ion” or “Lead Acid”—the latter of which is good for all lead acid based including AGM, Gel, flooded, and sealed maintenance-free batteries.
Past selecting the proper battery type, using a Battery Tender is as simple as it ever was.
When it’s plugged in and unconnected, the sole battery charging indicator light will flash red.
Attach it to your battery—using either the ad-hoc alligator clips, or the fused bolt-on permanent lead—and you’ll see the indicator at the wall outlet go from flashing to solid red.
Once it’s topped off, the light will turn green.
And you can leave it plugged in for as long as you want. The Tender will keep it topped off safely all winter.
