But off-road boots are part of the Stylmartin brand DNA. The company started an an Italian mountaineering and motorcycle boot company in 1970, and by the mid 90’s the brand was a staple of international motocross events.
After a dormant decade or so, the brand was—wait for it—rebooted, in 2007, with a solid catalog of quality options, including this beautiful traditional off-road trials boot.
The Impact RS gets a nice blend of oiled full-grain leather outer with molded external heel cup and shin protection, and comes with replaceable alloy buckles.
Despite not being specifically designed as an ADV boot, and while it doesn’t have the plastic hinge found in the segment’s standard bearer, the Sidi Adventure 2, we find this to be a perfectly capable option for all kinds of adventure riding.
True trials riding demands precise feel and control, and the Impact RS boots promise to break in beautifully and last for years of use, with the ability to have them resoled if and when the tread wears down.
They’re no slouch in the armor department, either. While they don't having a hinge component, they’ve got overbuilt heel cups and shin protection, PU ankle armor placed both inboard and outboard, and are a nice step up in protection from our other tall Stylmartin boot in our catalog, the classic road-going Matrix.
Although trials boots are generally understood to be lighter-weight counterparts to full dirt bike or adventure boots, a single Impact RS boot weighs just about exactly the same as the Sidi Adventure 2—both are about 3lbs/boot, compared to the 2.2lb Matrix.
All in, the Impact RS is an easy to wear, protective, well-made waterproof boot that excels on or off road.
