These stylish black frames come with clear side-shields that can be easily clipped on or off. They come in clear, tint, or amber lens options, and most importantly carry a stamped-on ANSI Z87.1 safety rating stamped into their lens.

And strictly speaking even if you’re riding with a full-face helmet with a perfectly good shield, if you ever plan on cracking that shield for some air, we recommend using these glasses.

Why are we so paranoid? Two easy reasons.

1. The NYPD has strict (if inconsistently and subjectively enforced) laws about riding with eye protection. Specifically, approved eyewear must carry the ANSI Z871+ rating. These babies should get you out of a ticket in any of NYC’s 77 Police Precincts.

Thanks to the efforts of the New York Scooter and Motorcycle Task Force, the laws have been clarified. Know your rights, and if you get pulled over reference this scintillating link: nymstf.org/eye-protection/

2) It’s just a good idea to wear proper eye protection. The spirit of the eyewear law is good and valid. Anyone who’s ever worn an open face helmet for a day of riding around the city knows the funky film that can develop on one’s face.

But beyond just the road grime, anyone who’s ever had a rock chip fly off the wheel of a passing 18-wheeler and smack them in the visor—with a startling CRACK!—knows that riding without proper eyewear can be dangerous.

Are these the most stylish things you could possibly put on your face? Maybe not. But you’ve got to admit that for safety glasses, they’re pretty cool. They’ll get you out of a ticket. And they’re a lot better than sporting eyepatch.

  • Low base curve frame and clear side shields provide excellent peripheral vision and protection
  • Glasses are packed one pair per wiper case making it easy to keep the glasses clean and smudge-free
  • Scratch resistant hard coat polycarbonate lenses in clear, grey and amber tint options
  • Black nylon frame with soft grey temple pads for comfort
  • Provides 99.9% protection against harmful ultraviolet light
  • Meets (and marked accordingly) with ANSI Z87.1+ standard

*The clear plastic side plates are removable, and we recommend taking the tiny Phillips screws out and tossing them. There’s a redundant mechanical detent built into the design that keeps the side shields firmly in place while in use. They also come with a carrying case that doubles as a cleaning cloth that can be used to store the glasses, or just the side shields.
