The sheer size of the muzzle on this thing provides some reassuring space between one’s jaw and the pavement—which honestly is more than could be said for the Biltwell Gringo and Bell Bullitt, both of which use a pretty minimal jaw bar.
But in some ways it’s unfair to compare the Lane Splitter to other retro full-face helmets. It’s a throwback, but not all the way back to the dawn of crash helmets, which seem to be the inspiration behind the Gringo and Bullitt.
Instead the Lane Splitter goes for more of a 1980’s Simpson vibe, with clear traces of automotive racing helmets, like the one used by The Stig.
The Lane Splitter is built with a polycarbonate shell and generous hand-stitched interior padding, which extends to a BioFoam chin bar cushion.
Huge vents in the chin bar flow plenty of air through the muzzle, and exhaust vents help move air through the helmet.
A brass peg and hole configuration on the left side of the shield offers speedy opening and secure closing with little fanfare or complication. Mesh pockets are included in the ear recess–perfect for most aftermarket drop in communication systems.
- Meets ECE R22.05 and DOT safety standards
- Injection-molded ABS outer shell with hand-painted finish
- Expanded polystyrene inner shell
- Hand-sewn removable brushed Lycra liner
- Audio pockets in ear recesses
- Chin curtain included
- CNC laser cut polycarbonate eye port shield
- Aluminum hinge covers and mounting hardware as used on the Gringo S
