Every rider should have at least two pairs of gloves in their closet—a pair of shorties that’ll breathe well and serve every-day-duty, and a waterproof gauntlet, for longer trips and shoulder-season rides, or to simply pack along on Sunday rides, just in case the skies open up.
When the the weather really takes a turn for the worse, at the very end of the fall riding season, or for those early spring days when it’s nice out but still cold and/or wet, you’ve got two options for gauntlets. You can go nuclear, with heated gear, or you can get a waterproof but un-insulated gauntlet—something that’ll get you through cold weather rides (maybe with a silk glove liner for added warmth), but that you can still use on longer in-season trips when the weather is warm.
Enter the wholly redesigned Summit 2 H2O glove – a big improvement over its predecessor and a great bang for the buck. Offered here in a women's specific cut, it's also offered in a men's version.
They should have just come up with a new name for this glove because it’s got nothing to do with the ordinal Summit glove. First thing you’ll notice is a new 3D Seesoft knuckle protector that earns the top CE Level 2 rating. The guards are pliable and comfortable—not always the case with knuckle protectors. The glove also gets composite abrasion-resistant palm protector, and the whole thing is sheathed in stretch Kevlar. It’s got some key creature comforts too, like touch-screen enabled index fingertips and thumbs.
It’s also got a nice little visor wiper built in, and a clever single-motion closure system at the cuff, for easy on/off action, and a reassuringly snug and secure fit.
