At long last REVIT has resurrected one of our all-time favorite touring jackets—the Horizon—with a sequel that’s a nice improvement on its short-lived predecessor, which was only available in 2013.
The outline is very much the same as the original—a fully waterproof shell with a thermal insulated liner that zips out for summertime use. Rather than employ an internal waterproof liner, like many of REVIT’s jackets (The Sand Urban, the Sand 3, the Neptune), the Horizon 2 is completely waterproof without leaving the rider with a soaked sacrificial shell. It sounds steamy for summer riding, but it has the same “tit zip” ventilation system found on the original jacket—two triangular breast panels that snap open and stay out of the way, with a big horizontal zippered exhaust vent across the back. Upgraded from the original snaps that kept the vents open, the new version (and the matching Horizon 2 Pants) now use a clever magnetic “Fidlock” fastener that’s easy to snap open or shut while on the go.
With the insulated thermal liner zipped in and the vents securely closed, this jacket offers plenty of protection and warmth for four-season riding. With the liner out and the vents open the jacket vents damn well—not as well as one of REVIT’s Sand jacket variants, or a full mesh jacket, but well enough, and the fact it’s truly waterproof seals its status as one of our shop favorites.
The Horizon also has plenty of storage—including a rabbit pocked in back, waterproof front pockets and inside pockets—both in the shell and also built into the thermal liner.
The Horizon 2 comes with Seeflex Level 2 CE armor at the elbows and shoulders, and has a pocket ready to accept a CE Level 2 REVIT back protector.
