Quad Lock is an Australian start-up company that has developed an ingenious way to mount your phone onto your handlebars. It also offers a range of accessories that work with its phone cases. See our Quad Lock Brand Page for an overview of all company’s geeky gadgets.
The heart of this systems approach lies in the namesake “Quad Lock” — a four-toothed mechanical interface that locks Part A to Part B.
Part A in this case is a dual-density molded phone case with an integrated Quad Lock interface built into the back. Quad Lock makes dedicated cases for all the popular phone models, and it also offers a Universal Adapter with 3M adhesive to retrofit your existing phone case, GPS device or EZ-Pass.
Part B is the mount. The most popular is the Bike/Bar Mount, which attaches quickly and easily to your handlebars and uses a spring-loaded locking collet to securely orient a phone in either the portrait or landscape position. This mount works best when you have at least a couple inches of available real estate at the center of your handlebar.
As an alternative bike mount, Quad Lock also offers the Out Front mount, which while originally designed for bicycles works really well on a variety of cockpit configurations. It offers the same basic locking-collet functionality of the Bike/Bar mount, but in a different format, with sprung plastic tab that locks into place—a device that’s shared with the Sports Armband Mount and the Belt Mount.
If you’re a car owner already using a Quad Lock case, check out the car mount, a tightly designed car accessory that mounts either to the windshield or to a 3M-adhesiive-backed flat plastic plate. The Quad Lock car mount can be pivoted 360 degrees and also has a few orbital degrees of adjustment. Yes, it's $50. But this Aussie-designed/German-made car mount is best in class, with a patented cam locking industrial-strength suction cup, super rigid body, and easy-connect interface.
Finally, Quad Lock offers a simple Adhesive Wall Mount, for at-home use, as well as a Tripod Mount adapter, for use with any standard threaded tripod.
*Note: the car mount, wall mount and tripod mount rely on simple plastic detents to keep the phone in position. Plenty of pressure to keep a phone secure for the respective task, but for motorcycle use we only recommend the Bike/Bar Mount or the Out Front Mount, which feature the mechanically locking interface that we’ve personally tested on New York’s Beruit-like city streets.
