The Aria XD-4 is the helmet of record in the Adventure Bike category, and for good reason. It’s lightweight, exceedingly stiff and strong, and now that it offers the ability to upgrade to a MaxVision Pinlock visor, it’s pretty hard to beat.
Whether you’re going off-road every weekend, or—be honest—just want to look the part while piling mostly road miles onto a Triumph Tiger or BMW GS Adventure, the XD4 leaves little to want for in terms of safety or styling. It’s aggressively designed in a primal kind of way—with big mesh-lined vents at the chin bar, for those moments you’re huffing and puffing while muscling a big bike through the woods, or stalled traffic on the FDR. Not just limited to off-road riding, this helmet doubles brilliantly as a city helmet, with a wide-open eye-port for excellent field of view, and copious ventilation. On or off-road, it can be run it with or without the peak and with or without the visor (see pictures).
Like most of our other helmets this one has an intermediate-oval fit, meaning it fits most North-American-market melons. As with all our helmets we offer out-of-the box fig guaranteed—meaning we’ll swap out head or cheek liners until the fit is dialed in perfectly. There’s quote a bit of adjustability out of the box, with 5mm peel-away pads that allow riders to tailor the fit.
Note: We also offer the Shoei Hornet X2, another high-quality, Japanese-made adventure helmet. Unlike category competitors like this XD4 or Bell’s budget minded MX-9, the Hornet ditches the highly vented jaw piece in favor of a smoother road-going design that’ll let in less air, but also a lot less noise.
And a note on size/color availability: we regularly stock this helmet in white and frost black (Arai’s most popular paint) in a full size run to help ensure in-store fitting. We also sell all the shields and accessories for this helmet.
