Description

Meet the Robinson: a classic waxed cotton motorcycle jacket designed for everyday use on or off the bike.

Produced in close collaboration with Vanson Leathers, this American-made jacket is packed with an arsenal of hidden features that collectively make it more comfortable, more practical and more protective than any other jacket in its class.

We named this new jacket after the Jackie Robinson Parkway, an 80-year-old, five-mile-long stretch of patched-over pavement that winds its way from the eastern edge of Brooklyn to the heart of Queens. Formerly called the Interborough Parkway and known to some as the Queens Autobahn, this narrow thoroughfare is often thronged with bigger and faster cars than what it was originally designed for. And even during the odd hours when it’s clear of traffic, its blind curves and crumbling road surface make it one of the most dangerous roads in the city.

The new Robinson jacket is built to handle the roughest road in New York—or any city street—with confidence and class.

Update 4/9/14: We now have black Robinsons in stock in every size in the store, and tan jackets are being finished and shipping from Vanson as soon as the final batch of facing leather comes in -- they are 95% complete, and 50% sold. To reserve a tan jacket simply purchase it through the website and we'll send you a confirmation, and ship as soon as they become available.

The Robinson comes ith a full 5-piece complement of D3O armor, which is easily removeable and fully adjustable thanks to a unique Velcro system developed in collaboration with Vanson. Besides spec'ing some of the best armor in the business the Robinson goes one step further, with leather-reinforced panels covertly built into the jacket's shoulder and elbow caps.

One of the most important features of this jacket is impossible to see. Hidden leather panels behind the Robinson's shoulder and elbow caps provide a critical layer of extra protection. The Robinson's rugged 10.10-ounce Martexin waxed cotton shell provides a water-resistant barrier that breathes well, is built to last, and only gets better with age. It's what makes the Robinson such a great everyday jacket. But waxed cotton alone doesn't last long in a slide. The Robinson's leather-reinforced shoulder and elbow caps significantly boost abrasion resistance at the these critical contact points.

In addition to its technical features the Robinson includes a number of subtle creature comforts. Note the smooth sateen sleeve liner, and the supple leather facing that extends from the collar to the hem, bracketing the jacket’s bright red plaid interior. The same leather trim is also used inside the sleeve cuffs for added comfort, and to create a windtight seal when snapped closed.

Besides safety and style, the Robinson also offers a bevy of practical features. Anyone who’s ever ridden a motorcycle with cargo stuffed down their shirt will appreciate the generously sized rabbit pocket built covertly into the back of the jacket. Accessed by discreet side zippers on either side of the jacket, this massive passthrough pocket can hold a pair of gloves, an extra layer, or an entire Sunday New York Times if needed. And that’s just one of this jacket’s seven pockets, which include two secure inside pockets big enough to hold a wallet or phone, and a diagonal chest pocket smartly positioned for easy access without letting go of the throttle.

And staying on the throttle is what this jacket is all about. The Robinson jacket was built specifically for city riding, where speeds are generally lower and the chance of impact—especially in New York City—is generally higher than your average suburban outing.
