Union Street is one-way, and we’re on the first block, so the view can be easy to miss. But if you walk out the store and look right—towards Moto Borgotaro, Moto Pistole and Scooter Bottega, this is the silhouette you’ll see: giant gantry cranes in the active shipping port at the end of the block. This whole area used to be dotted with ship-building docks and hard-drinking longshoremen. Now it’s increasingly becoming gentrified and diversified (lobster roll, anyone?). But these cranes stand as a reminder of the neighborhood’s gritty working-class past.
And they look cool at sunset. So we contacted Josh Minnich to illustrate it for us. And even though it takes some explaining and not everyone’s going to get it, we dig it, and hope you do too.
