Shop Ride(s) and 10th Annual NYC Vintage Motorcycle Show

Shop Ride(s) and 10th Annual NYC Vintage Motorcycle Show

Since the NYCVMS is all about riding classic bikes, not just sitting around fawning over them, Union Garage will be hosting two rides this weekend—one short one Saturday night departing the store at 7:00pm and ending up at the show's pre-party at Bar Matchelss around 8, and a second, longer ride leaving Union Garage at 7AM Sunday before the show. We're aiming to beat the heat and traffic and lay into some nice roads north of the city before turning back for Brooklyn to catch the start of the show. All makes, models and styles are welcome to come and set up on 14th street in front of Works Engineeringalthough show organizers are reserving parking on the block for vintage bikes only. If you're looking for a serious collection of concourse-quality garage queens being preened by persnickety owners for judges' inspection, like some twisted motorcycle version of "Best in Show," then look elsewhere. The NYCVMS has always valued daily riders over show ponies. It even applauds the futility of keeping these old bike on the road with trophy categories like "Bailing Wire," for the most bodged together bike at the show "The Little Sister's Bike" trophy, for best bike under 100cc's and "The Deepwater Horizon" award for the Brit bike with the biggest pool of oil underneath it. Any bike 25 years or older is welcome to enter. Registration starts at 10 AM and the show officially opens at 11. Unless you're towing in a race bike the organizers strongly discourage showing up with a trailer, and modern bike owners are kindly asked to park at the end of the street or around the block, space pending. There's also an open call for volunteers with several shifts available. If interested email show co-organizer Jack Drury. Admission to the show is free. /// Union Garage Ride Schedule When: Saturday, August 24, 2013, 7 PM Route: The scenic route from 103 Union to Bar Matchless.
